Fire Emblem: The Age of Legend
The Silver North-Ring is a common currency shared by the Northwestern Nations: Yeoria, The Northern Principalities, Mgarmir, and Snorivia. It is also occasionally used by neighboring lands such as Peruvia.
Description: Silver North-Rings are circles of silver (or sterling silver depending on the time period) roughly 2 inches in circumference. They are generally carried on strings of 100 grouped into tens by small, easily untied knots. A string of 100 is fairly lightweight, well under a pound.
Purpose: A shared currency was a strong mark of cultural unity among the vast number of small principalities of the northwest. In the days of Frysolythian expansion this seemed a good way to show solidarity against possible future invasion. Thus it is no coincidence that the currency was formally adopted by a council of more than 100 princes in 2A 2079 when the Frysolythians were at the height of their foreign conquests. The chainmail-like rings symbolized the martial valor of the north, as well as their potential to unite if ever faced with a major outside threat. Additionally, having a shared and convenient means of exchange was good for trade and maintaining economic stability. To that end, the rings were very hard to counterfeit owing to their careful specifications.
