Fire Emblem: The Age of Legend
The Ospreys are the personal guard of the House of Yeor, established by King Dinmerfin of Yeoria in the later half of his 2A 31st century reign. The catalyst for their formation was an assassination attempt on his son, Prince Twemornir of Yeoria, while he was trying to negotiate a trade agreement in one of the Northern Principalities. The young prince had no soldiers with him he could command legally because the kings of Yeoria cannot command the military to take any action that could be deemed hostile to another country without the Akt declaring war.
At the advice of Tollidarius VIII of Ivla, who had long urged the creation of such a group, a loophole was found. Gathering the loyalest of soldiers who could be found, King Dinmerfin dubbed them a ‘royally chartered society’ and not a military group at all. There was no rule saying the king couldn’t give suggestions or even orders to non-military groups that might be hostile to other countries, indeed this is the justification used for the king maintaining spies in other lands (and some say the Harjakt as well, for that matter some say the Harjakt and Ospreys are the same thing). Wisely he did not push his luck with the Council of Peers however, they supported the creation of proper guards for the king and so would not make any effort to question its legality. Tollidarius VIII was made the first leader of the Ospreys.
Over the years the Ospreys have remained a fairly small group, not growing as the League of Akaldin has. Members are chosen not for tremendous fighting skill but for loyalty and trustworthiness, though being competent is also a must of course.
Very often the head of the House of Ivla is the leader because that family has the single longest history of unwavering devotion to the crown and thus Tollidarius XIII of Ivla is the leader today.
It is fairly common for such of the Ospreys as are eligible to be knighted in honor of their service to the crown and Prince Rinvolin of Yeoria has not broken from this tradition. In the scheme of people to guard he has the advantage of being strong and capable of defending himself but is often quite reckless.
Some notable members:
Tollidarius XIII of Ivla- the leader
Sir Ellidan Whitestar of Yeor- a fairly recent member
Johannes Ehrlant of Ivla- both the newest and most accomplished member. Prince Rinvolin’s trainer and a vice-captain of the League of Akaldin.
Dame Andrine of Deruvr- most recently added woman in the order.
